On 06-07 August 2022, marking the auspicious state visit of the Honorable Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China to Dhaka, a significant collaboration materialized between the University of Dhaka and China's premier oceanographic institution. This partnership, forged with the joint efforts of the ICOG and the Department of Oceanography at the University of Dhaka, culminated in the signing of a MoU with the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), under the aegis of the Ministry of Natural Resources, People's Republic of China. The ceremonial signing, which took place in the distinguished presence of both foreign ministers, was executed by the Treasurer of the University of Dhaka and the Honorable Ambassador of the People's Republic of China.
The First Institute of Oceanography stands tall as a beacon of excellence in China's oceanographic pursuits. Its illustrious history, underscored by groundbreaking research and development in the oceanographic sector, places it among the world's preeminent institutions in the field. Boasting the world's largest laboratory facilities and an impressive fleet of dedicated research vessels, the FIO's prowess is further enhanced by a stellar team of accomplished professors and scientists.
Under the aegis of this MoU, both institutions have paved the way for multifaceted collaborations.
