Dhaka, September 21, CMG Bangla: Prof. Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, has emphasized the need to further strengthen academic and institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and China in climate change, disaster management, and sustainable development.

The Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University said, 'The experience of Bangladesh in dealing with climate change and disaster can create a new opportunity for a practical cooperation between China's technology and institutional capabilities. Especially, China's experience in climate risk prediction, early warning systems, infrastructure planning and emergency management can be important for Bangladesh.'
He says, 'Scientific knowledge, technology, and effective early warning systems are extremely important in addressing climate change and disasters. China has gained notable experience in monitoring, forecasting, early warning infrastructure, and emergency management in this field.'
The Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University further said, 'There is an opportunity to further enhance communication between researchers, policymakers, and research institutions in Bangladesh and China through various departments, research centers, and especially the China Studies Center at Dhaka University.'
In the future, such cooperation between the two countries will be established that will go beyond mere exchange of views; rather, it will bring real and long-term results in terms of climate resilience, reducing the risk of disasters, and sustainable development, he expressed hope.
Referring to the Bangladesh-China relationship, he said, "Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, cooperation has gradually expanded in various fields, including education, economy, and more. In June 2026, during the visit of Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarek Rahman to China, the issue of enhancing bilateral relations through 'coordinated strategic partnership' also comes up.
The Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University said, 'If the communication and academic cooperation between the people of Bangladesh and China expands further, it can play an important role in achieving the unique development goals of the two countries.'
He said that Dhaka University is already strengthening its collaboration with various Chinese universities and research institutions. These partnerships are not only fostering education and research but also paving the way for real development cooperation.
Representatives from Bangladesh and China participated in the event, discussing various aspects of enhancing mutual cooperation and effective exchange of governance experiences between the two countries.
