The Center for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences (CARASS) was established as an independent organization under the auspices of the University of Dhaka as per a resolution of the Syndicate in 2003. It is a specialized organization and the umbrella body for higher research in the Humanities and Social Science disciplines at the University of Dhaka.

The Center is located in its building inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 14 November 2012. It is situated in the compound of the Teachers-Students -Center (TSC) of the University. CARASS provides facilities for higher research in various areas of Humanities and Social Sciences. It supports and conducts research, holds seminars and workshops, and offers training courses on research methodologies. It also maintains links and establishes networks with similar centers, institutes, and organizations.

CARASS is also aimed at establishing and promoting exchange programs with academic, research, training institutes, and think tank organizations at home and abroad. Overseas researchers can work here with limited office and accommodation facilities.
