On January 9, 2024, the Department of MIS announced the innovative curriculum development program and welcomed a few distinguished participants to get their valuable opinions. By involving participants in an active manner, this unique technique ensures that their thoughts and perspectives are central to designing the educational experience. The curriculum program offered by this is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment in addition to meeting industry standards. In order to create a curriculum that is current, useful, and suited to the difficulties of the always-shifting field of management information systems, the new curriculum development approach aims to leverage the participants' collective wisdom.
Dr. Rabeya Sultana, Professor and chairperson, initiated and welcomed everyone to the meeting. She also circulated the opportunity to get acquainted with each other. Then, the respected chairperson shared her invaluable thoughts about the program. At the opening, the department was privileged to receive valuable insights from the Honorable Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS), Prof. Dr. Abdul Moyeen. He provided guidance and suggestions that will undoubtedly shape the department's curriculum pursuits and growth.
The faculty of the MIS department—Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Mia, Prof. Mohammad Moqbul Hossain Bhuiyan, Md. Abul Kashem, Prof. Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, Prof. Dr. Md. Akram Hossain, Prof. Dr. Rakibul Hoque, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Anisur Rahman—shared their opinions regarding the curriculum upgrade. They said that some new courses should be added to the curriculum to parallel the needs of the present competitive market.
In the realm of curriculum development, fostering an environment for meaningful opinion exchange is paramount. Further adding to the enriching thought were Associate Prof. Dr. Ashis Talkuder, Associate Prof. Dr. Nymtatul Jannata Nipa, Assistant Professor Md. Ariful Islam, Assistant Professor Md. Fahami Ahsan Mazmum, Assistant Professor Hamida Akter and Lecturer Jahangir Alom. Here, it was exchanged that the department should follow the needs of the job market and move on according to these needs.
Recognized industry experts who are invited to this exquisite celebration are - Sayed Shakil Ahmed (Head of Data Science and Engineering), Ijazul Haque (President, ISACA Dhaka Chapter), Abhijit Bhowmik (Workspace Infotech Limited), Mohammad Sahab Uddin, (Vice President, e-CAB), Md. Atatur Rahman Khan (Joint Secretary, ICT Division & MD, BDCCL), Sayeef Rahman (Chief Operating Officer, GenNext Technologies Limited, Megna Cloud), Md. Foysal Hossain (Assistant Professor, BIBM) contributed their cogitation on this syllabus upgrade program. They offered that some modifications should be included in the course name, its placement in the semester, and some important contents in the course syllabus. They said that to guarantee relevance and efficacy, a wide range of viewpoints must be included in the collaborative process of creating educational programs. Additionally, they demonstrated how industry participation has been a key component of the process of upgrading the syllabus. The MIS department made sure that students received practical insights and abilities that are essential for success in the working world, in addition to theoretical knowledge, by actively involving professionals from a variety of sectors.
In her concluding remarks, the chairperson stated that all these valuable thoughts and opinions will be considered while finalizing the course curriculum. She also laid out that an ambitious step towards equipping future information systems executives is the updated syllabus for the Department of Management Information Systems. The department is well-positioned to generate graduates who are not only skilled at utilizing technology but also capable of navigating the intricacies of the contemporary professional world since it combines technical expertise with a comprehensive understanding of business, ethics, and global perspectives.
