The Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Dhaka, in collaboration with the Disaster Research Training and Management Centre (DRTMC), celebrated World Environment Day with a series of impactful events.
The festivities kicked off with balloons release and a vibrant rally that saw students, faculty members, and environmental enthusiasts marching through the campus. The rally ended at the Central Shaheed Minar where Prof. Dr. Faruk Ahmed and the Director of Disaster Research Training and Management Centre Prof. M Shahidul Islam highlighted the urgent need for integrated approaches to disaster management and environmental protection.
Following the rally, a seminar on the recent cyclone Remal was held at the university premises, drawing a significant audience of academics, students, and invited guests. Jannatul Naym Rasha, Mumtahina Akter and Samira Sayeed Jeeta M.S students of the Department of Geography and Environment prepared the talk and they did an overall review of Remal.
World Environment Day at the University of Dhaka concluded on a hopeful note, with participants leaving the event inspired to take meaningful actions towards a greener, more sustainable future.
