Today, on 10th February 2025 a seminar on “Japanese Language Education in Bangladesh – Development and Challenges of JLC in last 50 years –” held at the Auditorium of the Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka. The seminar has been organized by the Dept. of Japanese Language and Culture, IML as a part of the Golden Jubilee celebration. Ms. Anika Begum, Lecturer, Dr. Md. Monir Uddin, Assistant Professor, Mr. Md. Nurul Islam Mujib, Assistant Professor and Dr. Mohammed Ansarul Alam, Professor of JLC were the speakers. Prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain of the Dept. of International Relations, University of Dhaka and Mr. Yamamoto Kyohei, Deputy Head of Public Relations and Culture, Embassy of Japan were presented as discussants. The seminar was chaired by Professor Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director (Acting), IML, University of Dhaka.
It might be mentioned that on this day, that is 10th February 1972, Japan recognized Bangladesh as a sovereign nation. Giving emphasis on this significant day, speakers and discussants discussed about the contribution of the JLC during last 50 years and its current challenges. In this seminar, to strengthen the relations between Bangladesh and Japan, organizing teachers’ training, publishing books on Japanese language and pursuing research in the field of JLE and JLC have been suggested.
