The Department of Management at the University of Dhaka has successfully executed a landmark student support initiative, distributing 31 high-performance laptops to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The program specifically targeted individuals who have maintained exceptional academic records while facing significant financial constraints, ensuring that technological barriers do not hinder their professional development.
The distribution ceremony was officially inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, who commended the department for its proactive approach to student welfare. Professor Dr. Mohammad Thoufiqul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Management, played a pivotal role in coordinating the logistics of the program, emphasizing that such initiatives are crucial for preparing students for the increasingly digitized global business environment.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of the department's alumni network. 27 of the 31 laptops were donated by a single, prominent alumnus who requested to remain anonymous. The department expressed its profound gratitude for this selfless act of "Sadaqah Jariyah," noting that the donor’s contribution serves as an inspirational model for others in the alumni community to give back to their alma mater.
To ensure complete transparency and meritocracy, the Student Advisor Team—comprising Ms. Anannay Chakma, Ms. Israt Jahan Kumkum, and Dr. Nur Nahar Yasmin—implemented a multi-stage vetting process. The selection criteria balanced CGPA benchmarks with verified financial background assessments.
The event was attended by a distinguished cohort of faculty members, reflecting the department's collective support for the cause:
Senior Professors: Dr. Md. Abbas Ali Khan, Ali Akkas, Dr. Faruq Ahmed, Rubina Maleque, Dr. Nadia Newaz Rimi, and Dr. Md. Mesbah Uddin. Associate Professors: Dr. Muhammad Abdul Jabber, Saira Banu, Tahmina Khanam, Dr. Qazi Moinuddin Mahmud, and Dr. Shah Ridwan Chowdhury.
By providing these essential tools, the Department of Management is not only assisting students with their current coursework and research but is also empowering them to develop the technical skills required for competitive corporate roles. This program reinforces the department's mission to bridge the gap between academic potential and professional opportunity through the continued strength of its alumni relations.
