1st Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Academic Network Seminar 2026 Successfully Held at Dhaka University
DHAKA, August 25, 2026 — The Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS), University of Dhaka, in collaboration with co-host BRAC University, successfully organized the 1st Bangladesh Preparedness Partnership (BPP) Academic Network Seminar 2026 today at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka.
The day-long event gathered key stakeholders, researchers, and experts from the public, private, and academic domains to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen multi-sectoral partnerships for disaster risk reduction in Bangladesh. Representatives from 14 universities across the nation actively engaged in interactive sessions throughout the program.
Distinguished Guests and Speakers The seminar was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Dhaka, who attended as the Chief Guest and delivered an insightful speech emphasizing the critical role of higher education institutions in building nationwide disaster preparedness.
Dr. Kazi Mohammad Mahbobor Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka, also delivered an address highlighting the importance of social science perspectives in vulnerability studies. Dr. David Dowland, Registrar of BRAC University, actively participated as a key institutional partner alongside delegates from partner organizations.
The founding leadership and faculty of IDMVS were well-represented, including Prof. Dr. Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain (Founder and Former Director), Prof. Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen (Co-founder and Former Director), and Prof. Dr. Mohammed Moniruzzaman Khan (Current Director).
Closing Remarks At the conclusion of the seminar, Current Director of IDMVS, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Moniruzzaman Khan, expressed profound gratitude to co-host BRAC University, participating academics, guests, and the organizing committee for their collective efforts in bringing the program to a successful conclusion.
