The candidate must possess M. Phil degree of this University or of a recognized University

Or

Four (4) Year Bachelor Honours Degree and One (1) Year Masters Degree.

In all examinations at least 2nd Division/Class (minimum 50% marks) is required. If the candidate has passed under C.G.P.A. system, then C.G.P.A. 3.5 out of 5 or then C.G.P.A. 3 out of 4 will be required in all examinations from Secondary/other Equivalent Examinations to Masters degree. Maintaining these minimum criteria of marks the concerned Department/Institute/Ph.D Sub-Committee/Faculty will determine their respective requirements of educational qualification.

Or

The following criteria are required for the candidates having three (3) year Bachelor Honours with One (1) year Masters Degree for admission in Ph D programme: But three or two years bachelor pass degree holders are not eligible to apply.

In all examinations at least 2nd Division/Class (minimum 50% marks) is required. If the candidate has passed under C.G.P.A. system, then C.G.P.A. 3.5 out of 5 or C.G.P.A. 3 out of 4 will be required in all examinations starting from Secondary/Equivalent Examinations to Post Graduation. Maintaining these minimum criteria of marks the concerned Department/institute/Ph.D. Sub-Committee/Faculty will determine their respective requirements of educational qualification. Other requirements and conditions for registration under regular system will also be applicable for Ph. D. programme.

The candidates must have minimum two years teaching experience at the Graduation level or minimum two years research experience at any recognized Research Organization or minimum two years job experience at any Govt./Private/Autonomous/Semi-autonomous organization.

The candidate must have minimum two peer-reviewed research articles published in a recognized journal. The supervisor must be of the rank of Professor or Associate Professor or Assistant Professor with a Ph.D. degree. To finalize the research topic and to prepare the synopsis, a foreign candidate should contact personally with the teacher(s), who will be his/her supervisor(s) or with the chairman/director of the concerned Department/Institute.

The candidates completing their Graduation (Honours degree) and Post graduation degree from abroad will have to apply to the Dean, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka for determining equivalence of their earned degrees.

No scholarship will be offered to the foreign Ph.D. researcher from the University of Dhaka.
