A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Dhaka (DU) and National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center of China (NMEFC) was signed today December 27, 2021 at Prof. Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of DU. Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present at this virtual MoU signing ceremony as the chief guest.

  Treasurer of DU Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Director General of NMEFC Prof. Dr. YU Fujiang singed the MoU on behalf of their respective institution. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal. Acting Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. Touhida Rashid, Chairman of the Department of Oceanography Md. Jobaer Alam and Deputy Director General of NMEFC Prof. CHEN Zhi were, among others, present on this occasion. Professor of DU Oceanography Department Dr. Kawser Ahmed conducted the program.

According to the MoU, DU and NMEFC will conduct joint research programs and jointly organize seminar, symposium, workshop, conference and training programs on oceanography. Besides, the two institutions will work together to promote and develop capacity in ocean modeling, ocean forecasting system, meteorology, disaster management and climate change-related issues in Bangladesh. The two sides will also exchange faculty members, students and researchers as well as information and research materials.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman thanked the NMEFC authorities for signing the MoU and hoped that the two nations would be highly benefited by this initiative. This MoU will play an effective role to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The bi-lateral friendly relationship between Bangladesh and China will be further strengthened through these joint academic and research collaboration, he pointed out.
