A two-day long National Conference on “The Rohingya Crisis: Future Scenarios” has begun today March 14, 2018 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as chief guest. The Department of International Relations of DU has organized this event.
Chairman of the Department of International Relations of DU Prof. Ehsanul Haque presided over the inaugural function while Dean of the Faculty of Social Science Prof. Dr. Sadeka Halim and UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh Ms. Mia Seppo addressed it as special guests. Professor of the Department of International Relations Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed delivered key-note speech. Convener of the Conference Prof. Dr. Delwar Hossain gave welcome address.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the leaders of international community to take pragmatic measures to protect the rights of various ethnic minority groups around the world including Rohingya Muslims. He also called upon them to come forward with their helping hands for undertaking sustainable rehabilitation programs for Rohingya refugees. He stressed the need for addressing future scenario of Rohingya issues. The VC also emphasized on forming an effective plan in this regard to face these burning challenges of Bangladesh.
It may be mentioned that academicians, researchers and human rights activists are participating in the conference.
