A day-long workshop on ‘Base-line Study of Traditional Medicines in Bangladesh: The Present Status’ organized by the Department of Pharmacy of Dhaka University (DU) was held today August 22, 2022 at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the workshop as chief guest.
Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy of DU Prof. Dr. Firoj Ahmed presided over the inaugural session while Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and President of Bangladesh Unani Aushad Shilpa Samity Dr. Sayeed Ahmed Siddiqui addressed it as special guests. Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar delivered key-note speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for maintaining quality of traditional medicines including unani and herbal to ensure sustainable health care service in the country. He also emphasized on formulating policy in this regard. He called upon the researchers to conduct inclusive research to make traditional medicines more popular and hygienic. We have to utilize local plants to produce traditional medicines, the VC added.
