Four meritorious students of the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “Prof. Zia Haider Memorial Scholarship” for their outstanding results in BA (Honours) examinations of 2013 and 2014. Awardees are Tahmina Islam, Aishwarja Azad Shimul, Afrin Huda and Md. Elius. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the students as the chief guest at a function held today, May 4, 2017 at Prof. Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Class Room.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Abu Md. Delwar Hossain addressed it as the special guest. Chairman of the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies Sudip Chakrabarty delivered welcome address. Poet Zahid Haider, younger brother of late Zia Haider also addressed the function. Acting Registrar of DU Md. Enamuzzaman conducted the program.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique paid glowing tribute to the memory of Prof. Zia Haider and said, he had played a pioneering role to promote theatre education and culture in the country. The VC urged the brilliant students to equip themselves with cultural values to search the truth and establish it in the society.
