A day-long seminar on “ DNA Technology” was held today, April 26, 2017 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of the university. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated it as the chief guest. The Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of DU organized this event to celebrate the World DNA Day.

Chairman of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of DU Prof. Dr. Sharif Akhteruzzaman presided over the program while Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque addressed it as the special guest. Director of Genomics Center of ICDDR,B Dr. Shah M Faruque presented key-note speech. Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of DU Dr. Haseena Khan delivered popular lecture. Convener of Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Md. Aftab Uddin  gave vote of thanks.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the doctors, academicians and researchers to work together in reaching the benefits of scientific research to the doorsteps of the general public. He stressed the need for conducting advanced level DNA research to prevent diseases of human being. He called upon the new generation to set their minds on scientific innovation for development of science education and research in the country. “We have to expand social science education along with the science one to promote humanitarian values in the society,” he added.

It may be mentioned that academicians, researchers and experts from different academic institutions, hospitals and research centers participated in the seminar.
