A three-member delegation led by Dr. J. Craig Jenkins, Senior Scientist of the Ohio State University, USA called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique today, March 15, 2017 at the latter’s office of the university. Other team members were Dr. Doyle Ray Oakey and Dr. Joyce Chen.  Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerable Studies of DU Prof. Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen was present on this occasion.

            During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programs on climate change and disaster management by the University of Dhaka and the Ohio State University, USA. The team members expressed their willingness to provide cooperation to develop actuarial science education at Dhaka University.  They also stressed the need for introducing disaster insurance system in Bangladesh to  reduce disaster risk of general public.

        It may be mentioned that the US team now on a visit to Bangladesh to attend a workshop on “Exploring Insurance Programs for Disaster Affected People.” Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerable Studies of DU organized this workshop.
