A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Institute of Disaster Management & Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) of Dhaka University (DU) and the Ministry of Disaster Management & Relief (MODMR) was signed today October 13, 2016 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium to promote education and research on disaster management in the country. Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and Secretary of MODMR Shah Kamal singed the MoU on behalf of their respective side.

Disaster Management & Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya addressed the function as chief guest while Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed it as special guest. Dean of the Faculty of Earth & Environmental Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal, Director of IDMVS of DU Prof Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Md. Reaz Ahmed and some other faculties of DU were present, among others, on this occasion.

According to the MoU, students of IDMVS of DU will get opportunity for doing internship at MODMR. MODMR will extend technical and financial supports to IDMVS for conducting research on disaster management. Students of IDMVS will conduct field level research on disaster management at different affected areas to gather practical experiences. They will share knowledge with the Ministry and also work together for effective disaster reductions in the country.

 Disaster Management & Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya called upon all to come forward with their collective efforts to face disaster in the country.

            DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the MODMR for signing the MoU. He hoped that this initiative would play an effective role to create skilled manpower on disaster management in the country..
