A new trust fund titled ‘Dr. Kaniz-e-Batul Memorial Stipend Trust Fund’ has been set up at the Department of Urdu of Dhaka University (DU). Syed Taki Mohammad, elder brother of late Professor of DU Urdu Department Dr. Kaniz-e-Batul handed over a cheque for Taka 10 (Ten) lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today June 6, 2016 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office to set up this trust fund.

Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of Urdu Department Dr. Md. Israfil, Prof. Dr. Zafor Ahmed Bhuiyan and some other faculties were present on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year four poor but meritorious students of the Department of Urdu of DU will be awarded ‘Dr. Kaniz-e-Batul Memorial Trust Fund Stipend’.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique paid his glowing tribute to the memory of Dr Kaniz-e-Batul and said, she was an honest and ideal teacher. She had equipped herself with the spirit of our Liberation War. Her outstanding research on Nazrul will be remembered, the VC added.

It may be mentioned that Dr Kaniz-e-Batul was born on December 14, 1951 and died on July 7, 2015 in Dhaka.
