Three meritorious students of the Department of Mathematics of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded `A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation Gold Medal’ for their outstanding academic results in BS Honours and MS examinations. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed gold medals among the students as chief guest at a function held today 1 June 2016 at the Rezaur Rahman auditorium.
Chairman of the Department of Mathematics Prof. Dr. Amulya Chandra Mandal presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Shahid Akhtar Hossain, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Aziz and Trustee of A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation M. Nurul Alam addressed it as special guests. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Babul Hasan delivered welcome speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the brilliant students to equip themselves with humanitarian values and work hard for upgrading human civilization. He said, 10 million refugees of Bangladesh took shelter in India during our Liberation War in 1971, but European Countries refused to allow even one million refugees to enter their countries. Are humanitarian values of human being decreasing or not, he questioned.
The gold medal awardees are Md. Mijanur Rahman (B. S. Honours), Tanzina Akter Tania (M. S.) and Nazmul Haque (M. S.).
