A total of 32 financially challenged meritorious students of various departments under the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded scholarships from First Security Islami Bank Limited, Social Islami Bank Limited and Prime Insurance Limited. Speaker of National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury distributed scholarships among the students as a Guest of Honour at a function held today May 9, 2016 at Dr. Abdullah Farouk Conference Hall of the faculty. Faculty of Business Studies of DU organized the program.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam presided over the function while Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof.   Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed it as the chief guest. Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank S.K. Sur Chowdhury, Chairman of Social Islami Bank Limited Major (Rtd.) Dr. Md. Rezaul Haque, Managing Director of First Security Islamic Bank Limited Syed Wasek Md. Ali and Managing Director of Prime Insurance Limited Ms. Mohammadi Khanam addressed it as special guests.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury urged the authorities of various financial institutions to come forward with their helping hands to develop human resources in the country. She stressed the need for introducing ‘education loan scheme’ as well as ‘paid internship’ at the corporate houses for financially challenged students.  

Terming investment in education as the best one Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique said, upgrading of human civilization is simply impossible without education. Therefore, we have to increase allocation at education sector in our national budget. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had taken various initiatives to promote education sector in the country during his regime, he added. He called upon the students to make themselves an honest, patriotic and worthy citizen.

The recipients of Social Islami Bank Ltd. scholarships are- Md. Harun Sheikh, Monirul Islam (International Business), Sarwar Jahan, Md. Sirazul Islam, Al-Mamun, Anwar Hosen (Finance), Md. Abdul Aziz, Md. Abdullah Kabir, Samrat Sheikh, Sazzad Hosen, Rajib Das, Santosh Rabi Das, Masum Miah, Md. Saiful Islam, Rawshana Akter, Razia Sultana (Marketing), Zahid Abedeen (Tourism & Hospitality Management), Mst. Nurhat Jahan, Sayeeda Sadia Afreen (Accounting & IS), Rita Bhattacharjee (Banking & Insurance).  

The recipients of First Security Islami Bank Ltd. scholarships are- Md. Nur Islam, Sujon Mia, Md. Shakil Mirza, Md. Rana Hossain, Md. Rana Ahmmed (Tourism & Hospitality Management), Mita Rani Paul (Banking & Insurance), Jannatul Ferdous Khan, Shuborna Ghosh, Meher Banu (Finance), Tahira Binte Younus (Management Information Systems). Two more students have received Prime Insurance Ltd. scholarship.
