A two-day long international workshop on “Climate Change and Desalination Using Membrane Technology” organized by Dhaka University Applied Chemistry & Engineering Department under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of UGC begins today 5 April 2016 at the Center for Advanced Research for Sciences (CARS) of DU. DU VC Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated this workshop as chief guest.
Presided over by DU Engineering and Technology Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Islam, the inaugural function was addressed by HEQEP Project Director and Additional Secretary Dr. Gouranga Chandra Mohanta, Dr. Alberto Figoli of University of Calabria, Italy, Prof. Dr. Ing Jan Hoinkis of Karlsruhe University, Germany and Prof. Dr. Ajoy Kumar Das.
Dr. Alberto Figoli of University of Calabria delivered his speech on the prospect of Membrane Technology while Prof. Dr. Ing Jan Hoinkis of Karlsruhe University spoke on the prospects of Membrane Technology in Bangladesh.
DU VC Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique said, membrane science and technology is an interesting and exciting area for climate protection, desalination, energy conversion, environmental upgradation, water treatment and the live. The importance and application of membrane technology is growing fast in the field of climate change prevention and control.
He further said, we are witnessing the impact of climate change almost everyday. It threatens our well being, our biological existence, our socio-economic security and our poverty reduction efforts.
Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the organizers and participants of this international workshop. A total of 70 local and overseas experts are participating at this workshop.
