Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique stressed the need for implementation of law properly to prevent violence against women in the country. He was addressing the day-long symposium on “What Works, What needs to be done: Interrogating VAW&G prevention mechanism in Bangladesh” Jointly organized by the Department of Women and Gender Studies of Dhaka University and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad held today December 8, 2015 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.
President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Ayesha Khanam presided over the inaugural function while chairperson of the Department of Women and Gender Studies of DU Dr. Saikh Imtiaz delivered welcome speech.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique said, the education is only remedy to all social problems including killings, rapes and violence against women. He emphasized on introducing moral teaching for the children in their families as well as primary schools. Guardians must have to give more attention to make their children as good human being rather than achieving the excellent academic results, he mentioned. The VC said, Dhaka University authorities are relentlessly working to remove darkness from the society. He sought cooperation from all in this regard and said, we have to work together for improving mental function of the brilliant students of the country. He urged the people to equip themselves with the spirit of our Liberation War to make Bangladesh a country of equality.
