The certificate giving ceremony of Postgraduate Diploma Course in Disaster Management was held today December 01, 2015 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) of DU organized the function in cooperation with Comprehensive Disaster Management Program (CDMP). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed certificates among the students as the chief guest.
Director of the IDMVS of DU Prof. Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman and National Project Director of CDMP Mohammad Abdul Qayyum addressed it as special guests. Lecturer of IDMVS of DU Dilara Zahid conducted the program.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique urged the students to utilize disaster management education properly to reduce the risk of both natural and man-made disaster in the country as well as the world. He said everybody can be badly affected by the disaster in any moment in his individual or family life and the society. Therefore, we have to be well prepared for reduction of disaster risk, he added. He also called upon the students to conduct advanced level research on disaster management for upgrading the image of the country.
It may be mentioned that a total of 50 students have received certificates in the program.
