The renowned Journalist Tawab Khan has been awarded ‘Ataus Samad Memorial Trust Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his outstanding contribution to develop journalism profession in the country. Besides, five meritorious students of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) have received Ataus Samad Trust scholarships for their excellent academic results in BSS examination of 2015. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over it to the awardees as chief guest at a function was held today 22 November 2015 at Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university. Dhaka University Mass Communication & Journalism Department organized the program. It may be mentioned that late Journalist A B M Musa had donated money to introduce Ataus Samad Memorial Trust Fund at Dhaka University.

Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin presided over the function while Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism Prof. Mofizur Rahman addressed it as special guest. Prof. Dr. Shaikh Abdus Salam delivered the memorial lecture on ‘Ataus Samad: A renowned Journalist’.  Associate Prof. Robaet  Ferdous conducted the program.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech urged the media activists to become objective journalists by following the ideals of late journalist Ataus Samad. Publication of the truth is the main principle of journalism profession. Therefore, journalists will have to work hard to publish the truth in the society, he said. Dhaka University is also working to search the truth, he mentioned.

The recipients of ‘Ataus Samad Memorial Scholarship’ are Md. Shafiqul Islam, Anando Kumar Shil, Farzana Akter, Fahima Ahmed Kachi and Dulal Samadder.
