A new gold medal titled ‘Sanghanayaka Shuddhananda Mahathera Gold Medal’ has been introduced at the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-President of Bangladesh Bouddha Kristi Prachar Sangha Mr. Promoth Barua handed over a cheque for Tk. 5 lac to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin today (Wednesday), November 4, 2015 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to introduce the gold medal.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Professor of the Department of Pali & Buddhist Studies Dr. Sukomal Barua, other faculty members and some leaders from the Buddhist Community were also present on this occasion.

Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the highest CGPA in BBA final examination from the Department of MIS of DU will be awarded ‘Sanganayaka Suddhananda Mahathera Gold Medal’.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for introducing this gold medal at Dhaka University. He said, Sanganayaka Suddhananda Mahathera has been playing a vital role to promote humanitarian values in the society. He urged the students to make themselves worthy citizen by following the ideal of Sanganayaka Suddhananda Mahathera.

It may be mentioned that Shuddhananda Mahathera was born in Padua village of Chittagong district on 15 January 1938. He is a spiritual teacher of Buddhist community in the country. He is relentlessly working for propagating the Buddha's teachings of           non-violence, friendship, equality and sympathy, as well as preserving the religious, social and cultural heritage of the Buddhist community in Bangladesh. He has established many Buddhist temples, orphanages, schools, colleges, clinics and hospitals in the country. He is the Vice-President of World Fellowship of Buddhist (WFB).
