The 10th of September is observed as World Suicide Prevention Day all around the world. Suicide is a global phenomenon and occurs throughout the lifespan. In Bangladesh, suicides claimed 14,436 lives between March last year and February 2021, compared to the 8,462 COVID-19-related deaths during that time. During this time, the number of suicides was seen to be about 45% higher than the previous 12-month period, according to the youth group. Among them, 49% of suicide victims were between the ages of 20 and 35, and 57% were women. (as reported by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics). Therefore, we need to understand the issue, and implement effective and evidence-based interventions to prevent suicide and suicide attempts.
