A tri-partite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among Dhaka University (DU), Embassy of the State of Palestine and Islami Bank was signed today May 17, 2026 at the VC’s meeting room of DU for educational assistance to Palestinian female students. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam addressed the program as chief guest.
Treasurer of DU Prof. Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Bangladesh Mr. Yousef S.Y. Ramadan and Additional Managing Director of Islami Bank Dr. M Kamal Uddin Jasim signed the MoU on behalf of their respective side.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of DU Prof. Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, Deans of different faculties, Director of the Office of International Affairs and high officials from Islami Bank were present on the occasion.
According to the MoU, Islami Bank will provide financial assistance covering academic and living expenses to 12 Palestinian female students enrolled in various academic programs of Dhaka University. The Office of International Affairs of DU will serve as the local host to implement the MoU.
It may be mentioned that, Dhaka University has enrolled 12 Palestinian female students into Bachelor's and Master's programs, fully waived their tuition fees and associated charges amounting to approximately USD 85,550, equivalent to BDT 1,06,93,750. Earlier, DU authorities proposed to Islami Bank that it provide financial support to these 12 female Palestinian students.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam emphasized the importance of international humanitarian cooperation, access to education, and support for Palestinian students affected by ongoing humanitarian challenges. He also condemned Israeli brutal attacks and killings of Palestinian people. ‘We have to stand beside Palestinian people as well as work together for the betterment of human being’, he added.
Palestinian Ambassador Mr. Yousef S.Y. Ramadan thanked DU authorities as well as Islami Bank authorities for taking effective measures in providing financial assistance to Palestine students. He also apprised distinguished representatives of overall situation, Israeli brutalities, genocide and inhuman activities in Palestine. He thanked the people of Bangladesh for standing beside Palestinian people.
