Hi, this is Md. Rafiul Islam Ranga, working as a Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka. For a couple of years, I have been working in a team on the genomics and vaccine development for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV), a devastating RNA virus affecting the cloven-hoofed animals globally. We have developed an effective inactivated trivalent vaccine and have been working on a recombinant peptide vaccine for the virus. Along with the FMDV research, currently, I am also working on several other projects including genomics and immunobiology of SARS-CoV-2, environmental microbiome, correlation of gut microbiome and metabolic diseases through metagenomics approach, and the emerging antibiotic resistance in Bangladesh.
Before joining the Department as a Lecturer, I worked as a Research Officer at Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) under the Ministry of Food, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. As a Molecular Microbiologist, during the early pandemic, I volunteered for COVID-19 diagnosis and research at the Genome Centre of Jashore University of Science and Technology, Jashore, Bangladesh. I also served as a member of National Expert Pool for technical and operational support for COVID-19 response in Bangladesh. I have 14 research articles published in different internationally reputed peer-reviewed journals.
