Shamsun Nahar Hall is one of the historically acclaimed hall of Dhaka University. Construction of second female student hall of Dhaka University named as “New Womens Hall” was started on 12 January 1971. After the independence on 2 August 1972 the then Vice-chancellor professor Mojaffor Ahmed Chowdhury inaugurated the hall as Shamsun Nahar Hall according to the name of Shamsun Nahar Mahmud, who was the competent successor of the pioneer of women liberation Begum Rokeya. Dr. Syeda Fatema Sadek was appointed as the first provost of the hall.
There are three buildings for the accommodations of students – honours, mid and extension building. There are dining, canteen for the students. There are multiple study rooms and a library. There is a hall auditorium where various cultural programs are held. There is a computer lab for resident and non-resident students. Shamsun Nahar Mahmud scholarship and Fatema Iqbal Trust Fund scholarship are awarded to the meritorious students and other educational activities are conducted here. There is a guest room for the sitting arrangement of the visitors.
