Department of Management Information Systems was established as a pioneer department in 2004 to spread the knowledge of information systems management in the country. In this Department, the students learn how to make "Information" useful to its users. They also learn how to implement, manage, and keep operational various forms of information processing systems so that these can best serve the needs of the intended users. The learning outcomes also include how to create and operationalize a full-fledged and automated system for gathering, sorting, and storing data. Along with these, students must learn how to ensure information systems security, build a network for sharing data among users, and use sophisticated analytical/mathematical tools to analyze data.
This Department offers a 4-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, 1-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, and other post-graduation degrees, including Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in MIS. In addition, the department offers an Executive Master of Business Administration degree to aspiring students, including industry practitioners, executives, and professionals.
The Department is well-equipped with two modern computer labs backed by high-tech servers, multimedia classrooms, and well-decorated offices. All classrooms are equipped with overhead projectors, sound systems, high-speed Internet, air conditioners, and ergonomically designed furniture. Faculty members of this Department are highly qualified and actively engaged in extensive research. The Department also regularly publishes a biannual academic journal, Bangladesh Journal of Management Information Systems (BJMIS).
Extracurricular activities, which occur regularly in this department, include cultural programs, study tours, sports, seminars, workshops, orientation programs, etc. Students and alumni organizations play advocacy roles in organizing such events.
