The MS (Master of Science) in Psychology Program is an educational program of 1 (one) academic year. This program has been designed primarily for students who are interested in working as professionals in various fields of psychological science. In line with this, this educational program emphasizes theory, practicum and research in diverse areas, encompassing such topics as family and marriage, early childhood education, psychological disorders of childhood and adolescence, psychosocial therapy and intervention, social and environmental issues, the most recent trends in neuropsychology and neuroleadership and neuromarketing. Students are encouraged to pursue MS in Psychology as the degree most likely to enhance their career options.
The MS in Psychology Program has been designed to prepare psychology graduates with diversity of thinking and scientific knowledge, and ability to come up with innovative solutions to the problems in different walks of life. Psychologists who are actively involved in running this educational program have a common tenet in the importance of knowledge diversity in understanding and solving problems in multiple ways. Thus the courses of this program have been designed to introduce students with the state-of-the-art knowledge in diverse and novel fields of psychology (e.g., family psychology, neuroleadership). The mission is to expand the horizon of their knowledge and experience in the fields that have high theoretical and practical implications not only in the arena of psychological science but in the current society as well. This will lead students to the development of leadership qualities with higher level of ethics and professionalism in diverse fields of psychology that will widen their career or job opportunities not only locally but globally as well. Thus students will be able to pursue a life to contribute to the betterment of society, and will be successful in their life.
To this mission, students of MS in Psychology will receive teaching, research and internship training through which they will cultivate knowledge and skills in diverse fields of psychology that will further prepare them as psychologically literate citizens. The theoretical and research training will help students equip with knowledge and skills to work in future as professional researchers or academicians. The hands-on experience that they are likely to receive through internship training will give them insight into how to apply psychological principles (theoretical knowledge) in solving problems originated from such sources as family, school, community and so on. Thus after successful completion of MS in Psychology a group of promising psychologists will come up with diverse knowledge and skills who will play a crucial role in human welfare and national development of Bangladesh as well.
After successful completion of the four-year Bachelor of Science (BS; with Honors) in Psychology from the University of Dhaka, interested students will be eligible to get admitted to Master of Science (MS) in Psychology. Students must be admitted to MS program within two academic years after successful completion of the BS (Honors) in Psychology. For successful completion of the MS in Psychology a student must earn 32 credits with no âFâ grade in any course. A student must earn a GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00-point scale for receiving an MS in Psychology degree.
