The Department of Meteorology at the University of Dhaka hosted an event on the past World Meteorological Day 2024, which was held on 6 March, 2024 . The event was insightful and impactful, dedicated to exploring the theme of " At the Frontline of Climate Action."
The esteemed keynote speaker, Dr. Hans Olav Hygen, Head of the Climate Division at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, delivered an address that was both informative and thought-provoking. Additionally, the event was honored with the esteemed presence of Honorable Dean, Professor Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka, who joined as the Chief Guest. Furthermore, Md. Azizur Rahman, Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, graced the occasion as a Special Guest. A team of five members of Norwegian meteorologists and meteorologists of BMD also joined the events. The event was presided over by the esteemed chair Dr. Fatima Akter, Chairperson, Department of Meteorology, University of Dhaka. To inspire action and drive positive change in our approach to climate issues, Dr. Fatima Akter delivered the Welcome Speech.
The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness and foster a collective understanding of the importance of building weather-ready and climate-smart communities. Through engaging discussions and insightful presentations, the event aimed to inspire action and drive positive change in the approach to climate issues.
