A half day workshop on 'Research and Thesis Writing for Masters students' was held at the Sirajul Islam Lecture Hall on Monday, May 4, 2026. The workshop was designed to equip MA students with essential methods and tools for navigating their research journey to produce a thesis or research monograph. The program commenced at 10.30 am with a welcome address by Professor Dr. Asha Islam Nayeem, Convenor, MA Syllabus Committee. Dr. Sally Cawood, Lecturer in Economic Geography at Lancaster University, UK, was present as the featured speaker, bringing a global perspective on the complexities of academic inquiry, challenging students to integrate interdisciplinary approaches into their historical research narratives. Dr. Kazi Mostak Gausul Hoq, Professor of Information Science and Library Management and, Librarian, University of Dhaka Central Library, presented on critical issues of using Al, referencing systems, and how to avoid plagiarism in research. Dr. Ahmedul Kabir, Associate Professor, Institute of Information Technology discussed further on using Al in historical research, utilizing digital archives, information management, and technological resources crucial for thesis and research monograph writing. The workshop was presided over by Professor Ashfaque Hossain, PhD, Chairman of the Department of History, University of Dhaka, who emphasized the department’s ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence among its research students. He thanked faculty members and students for participating the program. A lively question and answer session followed the presentation.
