Press Note:
The First Day of the KIX Bangladesh National Uptake Forum 2024
For Immediate Release
Dhaka, Bangladesh - June 10-11, 2024 – KIX EMAP Hub and Dhaka University Institute of Education and Research (IER) are organizing a prestigious global event in education research titled Bangladesh National Uptake Forum 2024, an International Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) Conference to Enhance Education Systems.
Organizing the Bangladesh National Uptake Forum 2024 is a significant step in Dhaka University's mission to reclaim its reputation as the ‘Oxford of the East.' The Institute of Education and Research (IER) is proud to host this prestigious two-day global event in educational research, in collaboration with the global organization KIX-EMAP Hub. This event not only enhances our DU's standing but also contributes to the global education research community.
Dhaka University, a beacon of education in Bangladesh, has made significant strides in global and regional standings. Despite a limited research budget, the university has climbed to the 534th position among the world's top universities, according to the global QS ranking published on June 5, 2024. This progress is a testament to the opportunistic leadership of the current Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal and the impactful research conducted at DU by its limited resources.
To strengthen DU's position in this global competition, its premier institute, IER, is playing a crucial role under the guidance of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor. This international conference is a direct result of these efforts.
IER with the Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and Pacific (EMAP) Hub are hosting the Bangladesh National Uptake Forum held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka. This significant event aims to foster cross-country knowledge and innovation exchange, mobilize learning, and strengthen collaboration among national education stakeholders in Bangladesh.
Objectives of the Forum
The forum is organized with the following objectives:
- Share KIX work in Bangladesh with key stakeholders and explore routes for uptake;
- Strengthen the connection with the GPE 2025 Compact process in the country and Education Out Loud;
- Create opportunities for network and relationship strengthening between KIX and key institutions in Bangladesh.
Participants
The two-day forum will gather about 150 participants from 10 countries, including representatives from:
- Government officials and the Ministry of Education;
- Key public and private education institutions, including Coordinating Agency LEG members and civil society;
- KIX research projects in Bangladesh.
Date and Time
- Day 1 (10 June 2024): 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. [3 keynotes, 1-Themetic Panel Discussion, 6 Research Presentations],
- Day 2 (11 June 2024): 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. [1 hematic panel session on Teaching and Learning and 4 Research Presentations]
Venue: Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, University of Dhaka
Structure of the Forum
- The forum has a well-structured agenda to ensure a productive and engaging experience for all participants.
- It consists of two major components: (i) keynotes and (ii) thematic sessions. In addition, the chief guest and guests of honor will deliver welcome and opening remarks, and a closing session will highlight the key takeaways.
- The keynote will highlight the challenges and experiences concerning implementing policy research in education. The thematic sessions will be moderated by a chair and comprise up to six presentations related to KIX activities in the country. At the end of the presentations and before opening the floor for Q&A, each session discussant will highlight key points, pose questions to the presenters, and identify potential connection points relevant to the Partnership Compact and, ultimately, the national education system.
Event Highlights
The forum, organized in partnership with the Institute Of Education and Research University of Dhaka, features a range of activities, including keynotes, thematic sessions, and networking opportunities. Below are the highlights of the two days:
-
- First Day (June 10, 2024): The program will start with registration at 8:30 am; there will be an inaugural session from 9:00–10:30 am, in which the Hon'ble Minister of Education will be the Chief Guest and the Hon'ble VC President of Dhaka University. Three distinguished personalities and researchers will then deliver keynotes. The day-long event will be followed by a thematic panel session and six research presentations. A reception and cultural program will be organized at the IER cafeteria for local and foreign guests.
- Second Day (June 11, 2024): The day's activities will begin as usual, with registration at 8:00 a.m. The day's scientific sessions begin at 8.30 a.m. with an overview presentation of the KIX program and research projects. At 9.15 am, a thematic panel discussion on teaching and learning will be held, and four special research papers will be presented. Then, at 11:45, the new Kix research project in Bangladesh will be introduced. Finally, the concluding session will be held at 12:30 pm, and the Hon'ble Minister of State for Primary and Mass Education will be present as the chief guest.
