The Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Centre for Gender and Development Studies (BCGDS) aims to recognize the contributions of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa and makes it an article of faith to accord recognition to women, their rights, and equality and bring them in the light of development as the agents of change in Bangladesh.

The women of Bangladesh, like many women across the globe, lack equal socio-economic and political opportunities, which stand in the way of the nation's development. This centre will promote women of Bangladesh in becoming equal agents of the country's onward march for development by establishing gender equity, equality, and justice. This centre supports the view of the University of Dhaka to strengthen its plight and lead the nation as a centre of excellence for teaching, research, and leadership development.
