The Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka, successfully organized a workshop titled “Youth-Focused Media and Information Literacy for an Informed Bangladesh” on 31 March 2026 at the University of Dhaka. The event was arranged by the Dhaka University Information Literacy Forum (DUILF) under the Department of Information Science and Library Management in collaboration with UNESCO Dhaka and the Media and Information Literacy Network Bangladesh (MILNetBD).

The workshop aimed to strengthen media and information literacy (MIL) competencies among university students, equipping them with the critical skills needed to navigate today’s complex information environment. A total of 20 participants took part in the workshop, including 12 students from the ISLM Department and 8 students from other departments—namely Institute of Information Technology (IIT), Marketing, Statistics, and Mass Communication and Journalism, with 2 participants from each department. This diverse participation ensured inclusivity and interdisciplinary engagement among students.

The program commenced with an engaging and interactive environment, reflecting the enthusiasm of both participants and facilitators. The workshop sessions were conducted by Dr. Sk Mamun Mostofa, Associate Professor, and Susmita Saha, Lecturer, both from the Department of Information Science and Library Management.
Through a series of discussions and participatory activities, the facilitators highlighted the growing importance of media and information literacy in fostering informed, responsible, and critically aware citizens.
The Department expresses its sincere gratitude to Professor Dr. Md. Roknuzzaman, Chairman of the Department of Information Science and Library Management and Vice President of MILNetBD, for his continuous guidance and support in making the event successful. The presence and encouragement of faculty members further enriched the learning experience for the participants.
The workshop concluded on a positive and forward-looking note, emphasizing the need for continued initiatives to empower youth with essential media and information literacy skills. Such initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to building a more informed and resilient Bangladesh.
