The Department of Disaster Science and Climate Resilience (DSCR) was renamed in January, 2022 from Department of Disaster Science and Management, which in turn started its journey in 2012.
Disaster Science deals with the complex interaction of terrestrial processes with the built environment by integrating earth science, social science, and engineering. Similarly, climate resilience is inherently interdisciplinary; the earth’s climate results from the complex interactions among the atmosphere, oceans, land, ice, ecosystem, and people. In recent years there has been a significant increase in the impact of disasters worldwide. This devastation is acting as a stark reminder of the importance of multidisciplinary abd comprehensive disciplines like DSCR for risk reduction which will contribute to building a resilient society.
