International Seminar on
“One health approaches to chemical risk management”

We are thrilled to share that the Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka organized JSPS Core-to-core Program B. Asia-Africa Science Platforms International Seminar on “One Health Approaches to Chemical Risk Management” on May 28, 2024. The seminar was graced by the presence of Professor Dr. AKM Mahbub Hasan, honourable Dean of the faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Dhaka. In his speech as the chief guest, he emphasized on the international collaboration for enhancing research. He highlighted the researches the faculty of Biological Sciences specially the Department of Fisheries. He thanked Professor Dr. Kozo Watanabe and Dr. Bizon Kumar Mitra for their visit to the University of Dhaka. In this international seminar, Dr. Kozo Watanabe, professor at Ehime University of Japan talked on “Tips for International Research Collaboration with Japan: A Japanese Researcher’s Perspective”. In his talk, he emphasized on the opportunities, strength and weakness of BD researchers in Japan and encourages students and young faculties to go Japan for higher studies. He also announced that his research team aims to contribute to the development of tropical and subtropical countries and regions through collaboration with overseas universities and research institutions. After that, Dr. Anwar Hossain, professor of Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka who is currently working as a JSPS research fellow at Ehime University of Japan shared his research findings. He discussed different alarming perspectives of antibiotics, bacteria & antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) and declared that his research team is developing method to remove antibiotics, bacteria and ARGs from wastewater. Following Dr. Hossain’s speech, Dr. Bizon Kumar Mitra, Deputy Director of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan elaborately discussed the opportunity for BD students and researchers to go for short-term and long-term internship program in his institute in Japan. The chair of this event was Dr. Mohammad Raknuzzaman, Professor, Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka.
The seminar was also graced by the presence of the honourable Chairman of BCSIR, Professor Dr. Aftab Ali Sheikh. In his short speech he welcomed the students and teachers to utilize the facilities at BCSIR for research purposes. In the seminar, the faculty members, students and supporting staffs of the Department of Fisheries were present. From the seminar, the audiences gathered much knowledge about the research collaboration with Japan, different approaches, thoughts and tips. It was a successful event of Department of Fisheries, University of Dhaka.
