JICA and JST will provide fund to
implement a research project
An eight-member delegation led by Mr. Ichiro Adachi, Senior Expert of Global Environment Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan today September 22, 2025 at the VC’s meeting room of the university. Other team members were Mr. Hironori Nishikawa, Prof. Dr. Kozo Watanabe, Ms. Makiko Fijita, Mr. Toshiya Sato, Dr. Masahiro Tokumura, Dr. Bijon Kumer Mitra and Dr. Sui Kanazawa.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of DU Prof. Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof. Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, Chairman of DU Fisheries Department Mohammad Mamun Chowdhury, Chairperson of DU Meteorology Department Dr. Fatima Akter and Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain of DU Fisheries Department were present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed about smooth implementation of a joint collaborative research project on ‘Implementing Water Quality Monitoring and Purification Technologies to Mitigate Health Risks for Antimicrobial Resistances (AMR) in the Dhaka Metropolitan Area’ funded by JICA and JST. It may be mentioned that Dhaka University will be the implementing institution of this project. Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain of DU Fisheries Department will serve the project as the Principal Investigator (PI) for the Bangladesh component.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan thanked the JICA delegation members for undertaking this project. He expressed his willingness to work with JICA to promote academic and research activities at DU.
