Purpose of Center for Policy Research on Business and Development (CPRBD)

The key objectives of the Center are to:

  • Provide research opportunities to faculty members and students;
  • Participate in national and international development activities through sponsored research /consultancy, seminars, symposia and workshops;
  • Offer training programs to various professional groups;
  • Publish academic journal(s), books and monographs;
  • Create a data base of the literature/documents/reports on international trade, business and economic development of Bangladesh with information on how they can be made available for the organizations and individuals interested in them; and
  • Other activities, including professional services to business organizations and financial institutions.

Research

CPRBD intends to conduct academic research, as well as policy and action oriented research aimed at promotion and enhancement of private sector development and restructuring of public sector activities in the context of the continuously changing environment of free market economy and globalization. The Center will promote development of research proposals by the resource persons of the Faculty of Business Studies and the University of Dhaka for various purposes, including for higher studies abroad and carrying out research work funded by different national and international of agencies.

Consultancy Work

The Center will undertake projects commissioned by Bangladesh government bodies, local and international agencies and banks and major companies irrespective of their country of origin. The consultancy work may be undertaken in fields such as international trade and business, socio- economic analysis, poverty alleviation, population and employment, human resources development, gender equality issues, women in development, education, industrial technology, project planning and management, information technology, energy sector development, environmental analysis, and other functional areas of management.

Training, Seminars and Workshops

Training may be provided in the following areas

  • Bangladesh in international trade and business
  • Entrepreneurship development
  • Project feasibility studies appraisal, monitoring and evaluation
  • Human resource management
  • Project management
  • Enterprise resource planning
  • Other fields of training to meet needs and demands of organizations involved in trade business and socio-economic development
