The Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science (IASDS), University of Dhaka, is delighted to announce that six members of the IASDS family—one faculty member, one PhD student, and four MS students/recent graduates—have been selected for prestigious awards and conference support from the International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB) to participate in ISCB–GMDS 2026, to be held from 27 September to 1 October 2026 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany for their significant research studies.
This year’s conference brings together two long-standing international scientific communities: the 47th Annual Conference of the International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB) and the 71st Annual Conference of the German Association for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS), with more than 1500 expected participants throughout the world. Under the theme “BIG DATA. small data. Your Data. — Transitions in the age of biomedical AI,” the joint conference provides an interdisciplinary platform for advancing research at the intersection of biostatistics, epidemiology, medical informatics, data science, artificial intelligence, and biomedical research. Against this distinguished international backdrop, selecting six IASDS researchers for ISCB awards and support is a significant achievement for the Institute.
Among the highly competitive ISCB Student Conference Awards, for which approximately three awards are granted internationally, Nasrin Sultana, a current PhD student at IASDS, has been selected as an award recipient.
Nasrin Sultana
Research title: A Copula-Based Semi-Competing Risks Model for Recurrent and Terminal Events in Presence of Cure Fraction and Its Efficient Estimation via Stochastic Optimization
Supervisors: Professor Dr. Md Hasinur Rahaman Khan and Dr. Moudud Alam
The Student Conference Award is one of ISCB’s major forms of recognition and support for postgraduate researchers in biostatistics, epidemiology, medical informatics, and medical bioinformatics. Awardees are selected based on the scientific quality and relevance of their research. The award covers conference registration, accommodation, a pre-conference course, conference dinner, and economy-class travel.
In addition, one IASDS faculty member and four MS students/recent graduates have been selected for the ISCB Conference Attendance Support Program (CASP):
Professor Dr. Md Hasinur Rahaman Khan
Research title: Advancing Small Area Estimation via Gradient Boosting: Evidence from Bangladesh
Md. Monowar Hossain
Research title: An Integrated RAEN-CooPeR Framework for High-Dimensional Variable Selection in Competing Risks Survival Models
Supervisor: Professor Dr. Md Hasinur Rahaman Khan
Md. Hasibul Islam Jitu
Research title: A Two-Stage Structural Equation Modeling Framework to Address Spatial Confounding in Binary Response Models
Supervisor: Professor Dr. Syed Shahadat Hossain
Maliha Binte Alauddin
Research title: A Comparative Study of Sensitivity Analysis Methods for Causal Inference in Observational Study
Supervisor: Professor Dr. A. H. M. Mahbub Latif
Moss. Maharun Nahar Jui
Research title: Improving Competing Risks Prediction Using Random Survival Forests with Multiple Imputation and Covariate-Dependent Censoring
Supervisor: Professor Dr. Md Hasinur Rahaman Khan
The Conference Attendance Support Program (CASP) is an ISCB initiative designed to facilitate participation by postgraduate students and scientists from eligible developing countries and ISCB National Group countries. For ISCB–GMDS 2026, the programme supports up to 17 participants internationally. CASP provides conference registration, accommodation, a conference course, either the conference dinner or an excursion, and travel support.
The participation and recognition of IASDS researchers at this major international scientific gathering highlight the Institute’s continuing commitment to high-quality statistical research, methodological innovation, and international collaboration in Applied Statistics and Data Science. The IASDS community warmly congratulates all six awardees on this remarkable achievement. It wishes them every success in presenting their research and representing the University of Dhaka and Bangladesh on this distinguished international platform.
