IASDS Students’ Club Successfully Organizes INSIGHT 2.0
The IASDS Students’ Club (IASDSSC) successfully organized INSIGHT 2.0, a university-wide competition featuring two segments, Datathon and Datamania. Designed to promote data-driven thinking, analytical reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving, the event brought together more than 300 students from different institutes and departments of the University of Dhaka.
The grand finale and closing ceremony was held on 5 September 2026 at the Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science (IASDS), University of Dhaka. The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Jahida Gulshan, Director of IASDS. Harun-Or-Rashid, Head of Data Science at Grameenphone Ltd., attended as the special guest.
Participation from Across the University
The Datathon attracted 101 teams from 12 institutes, departments, and cross-departmental groups of the University of Dhaka. More than 100 students also participated in Datamania.

The wide participation made INSIGHT 2.0 a meeting point for students with diverse academic backgrounds and a shared interest in data, statistics, computing, and analytical problem-solving.
INSIGHT 2.0 Datathon
The Datathon began on 27 August 2026 as an online Kaggle competition and concluded on 1 September 2026. Following the online round, the top 10 teams submitted their Jupyter notebooks for detailed evaluation. Five teams were subsequently selected for the grand finale.
During the finale at IASDS, the shortlisted teams presented and defended their work before a panel of judges. The session provided the finalists with an opportunity to explain their analytical approaches, demonstrate their findings, and respond to questions from academic and industry experts.
Datathon Winners
- Champion: Team NeurAps — Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering and Department of Mathematics
- First Runner-up: Team Valteil — Institute of Applied Statistics and Data Science
- Second Runner-up: Team DrDoom — Department of Computer Science and Engineering
IASDS congratulates Team NeurAps on becoming the champion of INSIGHT 2.0 Datathon 2026, as well as Team Valteil and Team DrDoom on their commendable performances.
INSIGHT 2.0 Datamania
Datamania complemented the Datathon by testing participants’ knowledge of data and statistics, analytical reasoning, and ability to think quickly.
The online round was held on 3 September 2026, after which the top 50 participants advanced to the offline final. The final round brought together students from different academic disciplines in a lively and competitive environment.

Interaction with Industry Professionals
A dedicated question-and-answer session was conducted by Nofel Ahmed and Shantonu Islam Shanto of Grameenphone Ltd. The session allowed participants to interact directly with industry professionals and gain practical perspectives on careers, essential skills, and professional experiences in data science and analytics.
The presence of Harun-Or-Rashid, Head of Data Science at Grameenphone Ltd., as the special guest further enriched the occasion and strengthened the interaction between students, academics, and industry professionals.
Encouraging Data-Driven Learning and Collaboration
INSIGHT 2.0 provided students with a platform to apply their knowledge to challenging problems, collaborate with their peers, communicate analytical ideas, and experience data-driven competition. Beyond recognizing the winners, the event helped build connections among students from different disciplines who share an interest in data science, statistics, machine learning, and analytics.
The competition featured a total prize pool of BDT 10,000, sponsored by the IASDS Alumni Association. The successful organization of the event within a short timeframe was made possible by the dedication of the IASDS Students’ Club, the enthusiasm of the participants, the contributions of the judges and guests, and the generous support of the IASDS Alumni Association.
