Institute of Energy, University of Dhaka & GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh jointly organizes National Renewable Energy Conference & Green Expo every year. This year, the 20th annual conference theme was be “Sustainable Energy for Climate Actions: Bangladesh Perspective during Covid-19 pandemic”. Considering the current scenario, the conference was organized virtually during 24-25 June 2020.
Mr. Salman Fazlur Rahman, Private Sector Industry and Investment Adviser to the Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated the conference. The National Renewable Energy Conference & Green Expo provided a leading forum for industrialists and academics to review the best of world-wide industrial innovation, progressive research, and technology developments in the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development Issues. The two-day conference covered various sessions vital for the evolving scenario, including Opportunities & Challenges of Renewable Energy During Covid 19 Pandemic, ICT for Sustainable Energy & Climate Action.
On June 24, 2020 Mr. Al Mudabbir Bin Anam, Programme Coordinator of REEEP II, participated in a panel discussion on Energy Sustainability: Impact of Green Financing & Energy Efficiency on COVID 19 Recovery. Dr. Atiar Rahman, Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank chaired the session. Discussants included Mr. Siddique Zobair, former Member (Energy Efficiency and Conservation) of SREDA.
The Conference explored the opportunities for investments that promote the transition to a low-carbon economy and the achievement of SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) during Covid-19. Also, a brokerage session brought together scientists, policymakers and stakeholders to discuss business and funding opportunities and to enhance cooperation on sustainable energy development for climate action after the pandemic.
