Five students of the 15th batch of the department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (GEB) have received the award for their brilliant academic performance in the Bachelor of Science (Honors) program. The prestigious Dean’s Award has been awarded to the excellent students of the session 2017-2018 by the Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Dhaka. The awardees from GEB are Shayan Shahriar, Rafeed Rahman Turjya, Dhruba Jyoti Sen, Drishty Badhon Sarker and Abu Nasim Haider. Both Shayan Shahriar and Rafeed Rahman Turjya scored a CGPA of 4.00 out of 4.00 which is the highest in the faculty and also highest in the history of the department. To achieve the Dean’s Award (a maximum of five candidates from each department) the students had to score a CGPA above 3.75, have a class attendance above 80%, and complete all the courses without any improvement examination or re-admission.
The award-giving ceremony was held on the 9th of January, 2020 at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the University of Dhaka. Professor Dr. M Imdadul Hoque, Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences presided over the program. Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman was present as the chief guest and honorable Pro-Vice-Chancellor (academic), Professor Dr. Nasreen Ahmad was present as a special guest. The chairman of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Professor Dr. Mohammed Nazmul Ahsan, and other faculty members of the department were also present in the ceremony to appreciate the students and celebrate their success.
